Black Volga

York based theatre company Wildgoose Theatre, in conjunction with Script Yorkshire, put out a call for scripts for their ‘3 or 4 for 1 or 2’ strand of performances.

This was to be an evening of new writing for plays requiring one or two actors only. I submitted a play called Black Volga, and was very pleased when it was selected alongside two others to be produced.

Black Volga tells the tale of a young girl who arrives at an institution in the dead of night, soaked from the rain, babbling about having been chased by the Black Volga – a mysterious driverless car. The therapist sent to treat her gradually gets caught up in her story until reality itself starts to warp as the storm lashes at the windows.

The play was effectively directed by Peter Huntley, and the actors were Keir Brown and Laura Castle who both did a fantastic job.

It’s always very interesting seeing how my writing is interpreted by other people, and while I didn’t necessarily agree with every choice made, I definitely respected the direction Peter and the actors took the script and there were a lot of positive comments from audiences at both the York City Screen Basement and Leeds Seven Arts shows.
