I was commissioned by Oliver Mitchell to score his original short film “Long Gone” starring Gemma-Louise Keane and Lyndsey Craine. The brief was clear, the film is great, but the deadline was short…
I had to work a lot of long evenings to get preliminary sketches to Ollie as quickly as I could as whenever you’re working collaboratively there’s always the risk you could be on different pages creatively. Luckily, Ollie was quick to respond with detailed feedback and once the tone of the film was set, it was just the job of tracking the action and the arc of the story.
I’m really pleased with the result, and so is the director! A valuable learning came from this project – I can turn a 15 minute film score round in just a few weeks, and the myth of the muse is well and truly debunked. I can create original, high-quality music to order without waiting for inspiration or the mood to strike me, which is a great relief to discover.
The film has already been accepted for Aesthetica film festival, and I’m hoping this will open the door to future commissions, as scoring films is one of my favourite things to do.
