Skeets started life as my entry for the final of Script Yorkshire’s Script Factor. Tony Hipwell from Grunt Productions was present at the event and showed an interest in turning the script into a short film.
Needless to say I jumped at the chance! The script concerns three captives played by myself, Anna Rose James and Matthew Pattison – all talking to an off-screen interrogator who appears to be trying to find the whereabouts of a man with a shotgun. In this post-apocalyptic world, the ‘man’ has gone from a nuisance to a threat as he shoots the establishment’s ‘eyes in the sky’ to pieces. As the interviews continue, a shocking ending shows what happens when you force people to live like animals.
The script didn’t undergo many changes at all in the transition from stage to screen. I left it in Tony’s capable hands to alter things in the edit as he saw fit.
On top of all that, Tony asked me to provide the score, which I duly did – composing an unnerving ambient backdrop from grinding synths and guitar feedback.
The finished result is spectacular, and currently doing the festival circuit. I look forward to sharing it with you all in due course!
