When I was approached by Mark France of Well Fangled Theatre to produce and perform music for his production of Midsummer Night’s Dream, I jumped at the chance.
I’d wanted to work with Mark for many years, having seen a lot of his work both with Well Fangled, and with Mooted Theatre (a company he formed with long-standing pal Andy Curry).
True to my expectations, the production was a quirky and fresh take on a classic play. The production design (by Simon Jarvis) consisted of a cardboard set and costumes made from cardboard and twisted metal wire.
My contribution was to write and perform incidental music and lead the fairies in song. I was actually on stage the whole time, playing the acoustic guitar, humming and singing.
It really was a unique opportunity, and the reviews were terrific. As always with these things, I learned a lot by participating, and observing talented people doing what they do best.
